Youth Ministry at FUMCA

We’ve all been there trying to find our place in this world, trying to find our place within ourselves. We hope, and work really hard, to ensure that teenagers have a home here — a home where they ask the tough questions, ones that leave room for the doubts and the uncertainties, but also the assurance of God’s faith and goodness — a home where they can be themselves and discover all that God has in store for them — a home that makes room for play and fun and is intentional about those teachable moments to help shape a life a faith — a home that knows life has its up and downs but strives to be a stable presence to come alongside the teen, friends and family — in good times and in bad.

Along the way, we look for them to learn about God, themselves, to love and serve others and to love themselves, while being intentional followers of Christ and having a little fun along the way.

Sunday School for Youth

Junior and senior high youth gather for Bible studies and lessons that match their point in faith development. Youth Sunday school is held in the youth rooms in the Johnson Center at 9:45 on Sunday mornings.

UMYF on Sunday Nights

This is our classic youth night – a time for fellowship and fun. We do a variety of things on Sundays. We may have a Bible study and devotion; we may join friends from other churches; we may serve in the community; or we may just have a game night. Whatever we do, we have fun, building community and growing in our faith. Oh, and there’s generally food to be shared, at least a little.

UMYF meets in the Johnson Center on Sundays from 4:00-5:30 PM.

Wednesday Night Activities

As part of The Gathering, youth meet on Wednesdays from 6:00 – 7:00 PM in the Johnson Center. Youth activities include fellowship and devotionals, as well as activities with other members of our congregation.

Conference Retreats & Trips

Our youth participate in activities and events hosted by the Louisiana Conference. These may include mission trips, such as Weekend of the Cross, weekend retreats throughout the state, or mountain-top experiences such as Happening. As United Methodist Youth, we are connected to other youth and churches throughout the state, and participating in conference-wide events is a fun way to build relationships outside of our church walls.

Seasonal Youth Activities

Youth enjoy a variety of activities, so in addition to the regular weekly events that are planned, we frequently host lock-ins, retreats, pool parties, and other activities to help build relationships within the group. In addition, our youth frequently help with VBS and Buddy Camp, as well as other ministry areas in the church as needed.

'Oli 'Oli Music Camp

Youth are welcome to participate in this unique and fun opportunity! Various musicians will demonstrate their styles of music and teach students with hands-on activities. Registration is free and available online and is limited to 50 participants. Music camp is scheduled from 1 – 5 p.m. on July 10 – 13, 2023.

Worship

Church is more than just a building or a weekly service. It's a community of believers coming together to support and encourage one another in their faith. Join us for worship on Sundays to participate in our community of faith.

Connect

The Bible tells us that we are not meant to go through life alone, and church is a great place to find support and friendship. If you've been feeling isolated or lonely, consider getting back to church and connecting with others.

Learn

We offer learning opportunities for all ages, from children to adults. Join a Sunday school class, Bible study, or other small group to continue learning and growing on your faith journey.

Serve

Church isn't just about receiving; it's also about giving back and serving others. If you're looking for ways to make a positive impact in your community, consider getting back to church and getting involved in service opportunities.
