Art is one of the focuses of the church, with hosts to the many beautiful paintings and art pieces.
The church works on fostering this connection with the community, through all of the art ministry events offered.

Weekly Studio Art Classes

On Tuesday mornings in The Studio, these classes are led and facilitated by Rev. Jean Sanders, Artist in Residence at FUMCA, and are designed to be a small gathering of adults seeking to explore creativity through visual art, while also using the process as a means of reflection, healing, and deeper self-understanding.

Participants engage a wide range of media, including watercolor and acrylic painting, as well as drawing with crayon, colored pencils, markers, and pastels, and explore techniques such as gelli printing, sketching, portraits, contour and blind contour drawing, shading, collage, and mixed media work.

Seasonal projects—such as Advent and Christmas angels, leaf printing, and card making—are incorporated throughout the year, alongside practices like using drawing for focus and calm and expressing prayer through art. Upcoming projects include junk journals, “collage your life,” paper mâché, and other creative explorations.

All are welcome to join, regardless of prior art training or experience.

Pop-Up Art Parties

With a spot of spontaneous energy, these parties just pop up as a fun extra type of art activity for the whole church to participate in. Examples of parties that have been hosted in the past include collage making, and stitch meditation classes to help suit many types of spiritual and artistic needs.

Going out into the world and experiencing the joy of art and prayer for a time is important to the church. With many ways to accomplish this, a retreat is offered by Rev. Jean seasonally for this experience.
