First United Methodist Church in Alexandria is a congregation that is experiencing life together. There are a few key characteristics to know about FUMCA as we strive to offer activities and fellowship opportunities that allow us to share common experiences as we walk in faith together.
Worship is central to our community of faith. There are two traditional worship services on Sunday mornings at 8:30 and 11 in the Sanctuary. Our contemporary worship service, The Well, begins at 10:40 on Sunday mornings in the Media Center. A communion and worship service is also offered each Wednesday afternoon at 5:30. The services are structured to inspire all to go forward to make disciples of Jesus in our daily lives.
Music and arts are important to us. We believe that music and arts can stir our souls and direct our thoughts toward God. Since the 1968 move to our current location, a focus on the arts has been vital to this church. Wide, gallery-like hallways display a variety of original works of art. The Tom Peyton Memorial Arts Festival, hosted by First United Methodist Church, is an annual event that celebrates the fine arts. As former pastor Ben Oliphant stated, "Art, like all spiritual realities, can recreate us!"
A commitment to social justice is part of a Christian's identity. Throughout Central Louisiana and beyond, you will find our members doing what they can to make the world, and their corner of the world, a better place. A life of faith starts with responding to God's love directed toward us. A growing Christian serves God by serving others.
