Experiencing Life Together

Adult Sunday School

Adult ministries are intended to provide a place where adults of all ages and life stages can join together to enjoy fellowship and learning.

Sunday School

There are a variety of Sunday school classes for adults that meet at 9:35 each Sunday morning. Unless otherwise indicated, these groups meet in the adult Sunday school wing of the church.

50/50 Class
This class was founded in 1946 with 50 couples in the class. The class now is comprised of mostly senior adults and they use the United Methodist International Bible Lessons. The study for this fall includes Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, and Matthew. This class meets in the 50/50 classroom.

Becomers
The Becomers class was organized in 1981 by the Rev. Kent Kilbourne, who was its first teacher and leader. The class considers itself contemporary Christian and studies current topics in relation to Christianity. The group is beginning a series on forgiveness.

Friends in Faith
The Friends in Faith class is a small group of middle-aged married couples and single adults. They are beginning a new study using the book "Misreading Scripture with Western Eyes: Removing Cultural Blinders to Better Understand the Bible." Biblical scholars Brandon O'Brien and Randy Richards shed light on the ways that Western readers often misunderstand the cultural dynamcis of the Bible.  They identify nine key areas where modern Westerners have significantly different assumptions about what might be going on in a text.

Seekers
The Seekers class was organized by the Rev. Tom Peyton in 1973. This group's quest - discovery - is indicated in its name. The class is made up of singles and couples. They are studying the James Moore book, When the World Takes the Wind Out of Your Sails.

Sojourners
The Sojourners class is for adults of all ages. This group studies current topics in relation to Christianity in a very relaxed format. They are studying Living in God's Light by Susan E. Willhauck. This group meets in the Sojourners room in the Johnson Center.

Stepping Stones/New Horizons
This class is composed of young adults, both singles and couples, and young adults with children and teenagers. Their lives are busy but they enjoy a time of laid-back discussions on Sunday mornings. Currently, this group is discussing a DVD series called 40 Days of Love by Rick Warren.

Transitions
The Transitions class is an open-minded group who are transitioning to become better Christians through study and discussion of the Bible and current authors. The class is comprised of singles and couples, from "empty nesters" to "almost empty nesters" and welcomes all.
