Adult Ministries
Adult ministries are intended to provide a place where adults of all ages and life stages can join together to enjoy fellowship and learning.
Sunday School
There are a variety of Sunday school classes for adults that meet at 9:40 each Sunday morning. Unless otherwise indicated, these groups meet in the adult Sunday school wing of the church.
50/50 Class
This class was founded in 1946 with 50 couples in the class. The class now is comprised of mostly senior adults and they use the United Methodist International Bible Lessons. The study for this fall includes Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, and Matthew. This class meets in the 50/50 classroom.
Becomers
The Becomers class was organized in 1981 by the Rev. Kent Kilbourne, who was its first teacher and leader. The class considers itself contemporary Christian and studies current topics in relation to Christianity. The group is beginning a series on forgiveness.
Friends in Faith
The Friends in Faith class is a small group of middle-aged married couples and single adults. They are now studying Christianity and World Religions: Wrestling with Questions People Ask. This video-based study explores four major world religions, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Judaism, with author and presenter Adam Hamilton.
New Horizons
This class is composed of young adults with children and teenagers. Their lives are busy but they enjoy a time of laid-back discussions on Sunday mornings. They are beginning a new discussion series about marriage based on the movie Fireproof.
Seekers
The Seekers class was organized by the Rev. Tom Peyton in 1973. This group's quest - discovery - is indicated in its name. The class is made up of singles and couples. The are studying the James Moore book, When the World Takes the Wind Out of Your Sails.
Sojourners
The Sojourners class is for adults of all ages. This group studies current topics in relation to Christianity in a very relaxed format. They are studying Living in God's Light by Susan E. Willhauck. This group meets in the Sojourners room in the Johnson Center.
Stepping Stones
This class is made up of young adults, both singles and couples, who are seeking to strengthen their faith through Bible studies and fellowship. Currently, this group is discussing Just Like Jesus by Max Lucado.
Transitions
The Transitions class is an open-minded group who are transitioning to become better Christians through study and discussion of the Bible and current authors. The class is comprised of singles and couples, from "empty nesters" to "almost empty nesters" and welcomes all. This group is presently studying The Journey, an Advent study by Adam Hamilton.
SAM Club - Seniors at Alexandria Methodist
SAM Club meets the second Thursday of each month from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. They enjoy a lunch, fellowship, and a program. The programming alternates between informational presentations and good entertainment. All adults are invited to attend and bring a friend!
